Asked to be a Godparent? A Sponsor for Confirmation?

A sponsor should be a person other than the parent of the child/candidate.

• Must be a registered member in good standing with the Church and live a life of Faith.
• Must have received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation.   
• Must be at least 16 years old and can be of any gender.
• If married, be in a valid marriage in the Catholic Church.

The role of a sponsor is not over with the celebration of the sacraments. It is seen as a lifetime commitment, a relationship that would last throughout the individual’s journey of faith.
